USE CASE
Check a web form for personal or confidential data before you submit it
Before a contact form, an application form or an internal tool takes your text, check whether an email address, a phone number or a case name ended up in it without your meaning to. This is how that job goes with the Chrome extension Safe Privacy Gate.
This extension is not a way to prevent a leak. It tells you what it found and pauses that one send, nothing more. It does not rewrite your text and it does not decide whether the text is safe to send. The last call stays yours.
Where the work gets awkward
Filling in a form, you read the dedicated fields carefully — your name, your email address. The one that slips past is the free-text box.
Paste in an old email or chat log and, along with the part you needed, someone else’s email address, a phone number, a customer number or a project name can come with it.
The longer the text gets, the less likely you are to read the whole thing again before pressing send.
Press send, and it goes as it is
An ordinary web form does not necessarily give you a second look at what you wrote. Whether you check, and how much of it you check, is left to the sender.
- Reading pasted text from the top again, on every send
- Reading it and still skimming past the parts you did not type yourself
With copied and pasted text especially, the information you did not type is the hardest to notice. Safe Privacy Gate puts its check in that last moment.
The same job with Safe Privacy Gate
- 1
Fill in the form exactly as you normally would.
- 2
Press “send”.
- 3
If nothing it watches for is there, the form submits as usual.
- 4
If it finds an email address, a phone number or something similar, it pauses that send and shows you.
- 5
You decide whether to edit the text or send it as it is.
Safe Privacy Gate never changes your text on its own.
These are the shapes it looks for in that last moment.
A plain Enter is treated as a line break and is not stopped (on AI chats where Enter sends, Enter counts as a send). For attachments it reads the file name only, never the contents.
What this looks like in practice
Pasting an old email into a contact form
You quote the message to explain the situation, and the sender’s address is still in the quote.
Copying a customer exchange into an internal tool
You meant to share only the relevant part, and the customer’s phone number and reference numbers came along.
Checking the name of an attachment
You checked what was inside the file, and the customer or project name was still in its file name.
Watching for words only your organisation uses
Employee numbers, project codes and confidential project names, registered as custom rules and checked the same way.
What Safe Privacy Gate does
- Checks what you wrote in the moment before it is sent
- Detects the shape of email addresses, phone numbers, API keys and the like
- Lets you add your own words and formats as rules
- Checks the file name of an attachment
- Keeps the whole check inside your browser
What Safe Privacy Gate does not do
- Prevent a leak completely
- Rewrite what you wrote, automatically
- Decide for you whether something may be sent
- Replace your organisation’s DLP or its approval process
It is not a large mechanism that forbids sending. It is a way to get one more chance to notice, in the moment before you send.
